They also closed off Sheikh Zayed Road while they were at it
It can be remembered that the famous Top Gear trio – Clarkson, Hammond and May were in Dubai last year to shoot the final episode of their new show “The Grand Tour”. During their stay, they pitched their mobile studio in Dubai’s Burj Khalifa where lucky fans got the once in a lifetime opportunity to be part of the show.
In a video posted by CarbonSignal Automotive, an automotive customization shop in Dubai, Grand Tour host Richard Hammond pilots a Porsche 918 against a Bugatti Veyron as they took to Sheikh Zayed Road for a one-off straight drag to the finish. Hammond wins the race in his Porsche and is set to call it day. That is until an Emirati in an unassuming Nissan Patrol rolls up and challenges him to a race. Here’s a video of the race and Hammond’s supercar getting beaten by an SUV hands down.
Team behind The Grand Tour porsche and patrol run.
In the video, Hammond makes the mistake of assuming that he can beat the Nissan since it’s after all, a bulky car. A closer look at the car however gives viewers hints that the car has been modified and can go faster than it normally does. The subtle and unassuming appearance caught Hammond off-guard as the Patrol edged away from his Porsche with ease.
If there is anything the Grand Tour team has learned from their visit in Dubai – it’s that to always assume that the cars here are capable of going fast – really fast.
