The fake news propagators are at it again. This time they have targeted the leading Qatari dairy company Baladna by spreading rumour on social media that the company is using sub-standard plastic for packaging.
The dairy giant, who had played a key role in setting up a strong dairy industry after Qatar was hit by the blockade, has issued a strong statement dismissing the rumours.
“Some social media outlets circulated false rumours and fabricated news falsely attributed to a Qatari citizen whose aim is to harm the reputation of Baladna Food Industries, the State of Qatar and government regulators, and to charge other government companies with manipulation. These rumours focussed on the fact that our company uses primary plastic materials that are not suitable for human use in the manufacrture of containers, contrary to the international technical standards for packing foodstuffs,” the company said in a statement.
The rumour was falsely attributed to a Qatari citizen to make it look authentic. After the rumour started spreading under his name, Ali Hamed Namlan Al-Hababi informed the company of the same and has also filed a complaint with Electronic Crimes Department at the Ministry of Interior.
The style of the rumour shows that its is the work of a specialist and not by an individual with the intent to defame the country and the company.
“Baladna strongly deny these rumours. We consider consumer health is our top priority. We serve only the freshest and highest quality local products, and only in packaging that meets the strictest global standards. Baladna is an ISO 22000:2005 certified company that adheres closely to the FDA rules and regulations as well as all international standards and processes to provide high quality safe food products to consumers. This includes stringent measures in quality control, sanitation, and other food safety mechanisms, including bottling and prodcut packaging. All of our packaging materials, inclusing plastic containers, are made from approves materials and are safe for packing all food products,” the statement added.
The fake news spreading through social media has become the bane of the society nowadays and many governements and corporates have been bringing out statemnts againt such rumours and lies.
