Traffic department places mobile radars to reduce traffic-related accidents

Qatar’s Traffic Department has placed mobile radars at locations with high risk of speeding in a bid to reduce accidents.

Some of the locations for the radars placed on Tuesday are – Al Shamal (120km/hr), Dukhan Shahaniya (120km/hr), Salwa (120km/hr), F Ring Road (100km/hr), Airforce Street (100km/hr), Al Wakra (80km/hr) and Al Waab Street (80km/hr).

The initiative was started by the Ministry of Interior (MoI) to promote road safety by forcing motorists to abide by the speed limits, as reported by The Peninsula.

The radars will catch seat belt violations, over speeding, overtaking from wrong side in addition to usage of phone while driving.

In this regard, General Directorate of Traffic Brigadier Mohammed Saad Al Kharji stated earlier that mobile radars are more effective in reducing speed violations since motorists are aware that radars are in place by which they reduce their speed accordingly.
