DOHA: Traffic accidents have declined by 7.6 percent in June compared to May, reflecting that the roads have become safer for commuters. A total of 509 traffic cases were recorded during June, according to the 54th issue of Monthly Statistics bulletin released yesterday by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS).

Light injuries occupied largest share in the total traffic accidents that accounted 89 percent of the total accidents in June, while serious injuries had a share of 2 percent in the total accidents.

The bulletin also highlighted that the total number of registered vehicles during June 2018 has reached 3,910 new vehicles. The figure showed a monthly decrease of 28.2 percent and an annual decline of 12.5 percent.

The demographic statistics in the present bulletin showed that the total population of Qatar has increased from 2.55 million during June 2017 to almost 2.58 million at end of June 2018, an annual increase of 1.4 percent.

There was an increase in the number of social security beneficiaries by 2.5 percent compared to the same month of the previous year (June 2017). This is accompanied by a rise in total deposits with an annual rate of 6.2 percent which is offset by an increase in the total credit with an annual rate of 6.1 percent compared to June 2017.

As for the data of buildings permits issued, the total number of permits has reached 383 permits during June 2018, recording a monthly decrease of 35.8 percent.

A total number of 2,073 live births has been registered during June 2018, a 3.5 percent decrease compared to May 2018. However, this decrease was offset by an increase in the total Qatari live births by 6.9 percent compared to last month.

On the other hand, 156 deaths were recorded during the same period, a decrease of 18.8 percent compared to May 2018. However, this decrease was offset by a decrease of 53.3 percent in Qatari deaths.

Moreover, June 2018 has experienced a decrease in marriage and divorce contracts. The total number of marriage contracts was 295 contracts, whereas the total number of divorces has reached 62; namely, one divorce for every 5 marriages.

As for Social Security statements, the month of June witnessed a significant increase in the number of social security beneficiaries, reaching 14,538 individuals, whereas the total value of social security has almost reached QR82m during the same month.

The bulletin showed that the total electricity utilisation during June 2018 was 3845.4 GWh attaining a monthly increase of 16.1 percent as compared with the previous month, while recording an annual drop of 11.1 percent compared to June 2017.

The total water consumption has reached 38100.5 thousand m3 during the same month attaining a monthly decrease of 5.2 percent as compared with last month, while recording an annual drop of 14.1 percent compared to June 2017 .
