QRCS, UNDP sign deal to finance water, health projects in Nepal

DOHA: Qatari Red Crescent Society (QRCS) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) have signed, in the Nepalese capital of Kathmandu, an agreement to finance the Public Health, Water and Sanitation Project in the Republic of Nepal in cooperation with the local government in the north of the country.

The agreement was signed by QRCS’s Director of International Relief and Development, Rashid Saad Al Mohannadi, and UNDP’s Country Director in Nepal, in presence of Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Nepal, Youssef bin Mohammed Al Hail, QNA reported. According to a statement issued yesterday by the QRCS, the total cost of the project exceeds $335,000 adding that it would benefit about 2,000 families with an average of 10,000 people.

He pointed that the project involves extending the drinking water distribution and purification networks, Rehabilitating irrigation channels to improve the agriculture cycle, and construction of a medical center that suits the nature of the earthquake-prone area, as well as environmental sanitation and educational services.The projects come as part of QRCS’s continued support for stability and development projects in Nepal.
