DOHA: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has proceeded with its water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) intervention for the internally displaced people (IDPs) in Mosul, Iraq.

With funding from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs’ (OCHA) Iraq Humanitarian Pooled Fund (IHPF), these efforts provide vital services for 835 households (more than 4,000 people) living in the camp.

Among the many activities undertaken by QRCS’s personnel are handing over water ration coupons to all inhabitants, assess the amounts of water distributed, test and verify the usability of water, ensure the coverage of all parts of the camp, perform maintenance of water tanks, raise awareness about economized water use and hygiene standards, and assign garbage disposal locations.

Working in the country since 2013, QRCS’s Iraq operation has conducted nearly 50 diverse projects in emergency relief, health care, water, and sanitation. They work closely with local authorities, the Iraqi Red Crescent Society, international organisations, and UN agencies.
