Doha, Qatar: As one of the GCC’s fastest-growing economies with a strong focus on its National Vision 2030 goals, Qatar is set for significant growth in its maritime and logistics sectors, driven by consistent increases in port activity.
To further advance these sectors, the Seatrade Maritime Qatar event will be held on February 4-5, 2025, at the Sheraton Grand Doha Resort & Convention Hotel. This event will spotlight Qatar’s emerging status as a global maritime hub. The event is organized by Seatrade Maritime in partnership with the Founding Strategic Partner, Mwani Qatar.
Mwani Qatar stated: “While Qatar aims to strengthen its global leadership in the oil and gas sector, it also seeks to accelerate the growth of its non-hydrocarbon economy. The target is to achieve an average annual non-hydrocarbon growth rate of 4 percent through 2030, focusing on expanding manufacturing, tourism, logistics, education, health, food and agriculture, financial services, and information technology and digital services, as well as future clusters around critical technologies and national assets.”
In the first half of 2024, 1,323 ships called at Qatar’s three ports. These ports handled 931,465 tonnes of general and bulk cargo shipments, 55,944 RORO vehicles, 358,201 heads of livestock, and 171,158 tonnes of building materials. Additionally, Mwani Qatar ports collectively managed 706,983 20-foot equivalent unit (TEU) containers, marking a 12 percent growth compared to the same period last year.
With this growth expected to continue, Seatrade Maritime Qatar will explore how international companies can do business in Qatar, while Qatari companies aim to boost their global presence by showcasing opportunities with local businesses.
Chris Morley, Group Director of Seatrade Maritime, said: “With over 50 years in the maritime industry, Seatrade Maritime is well-positioned to launch this event in Qatar. Our experience with international events in Dubai, Saudi Arabia, the Philippines, the USA, the UK, and Singapore, gives us confidence that Seatrade Maritime Qatar will help further Qatar’s National Vision 2030 goals. We are proud to be part of this journey.”
