DOHA: As Eid Al Adha nears, different municipalities of the country have started giving final touches to preparations especially related to slaughter of sacrificial animals.
The municipalities at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment have announced their readiness for Eid Al Adha through intensifying monitoring of food establishments especially slaughterhouses, butcheries and consumer complexes.
The campaigns aim at ensuring compliance with necessary health and hygiene conditions in handling foodstuff before selling them.
Doha Municipality yesterday said in a statement that it had set a plan for the work of the health control departments and will start inspection drives from August 12 (Sunday) of sweets, chocolates and nut shops. It will conduct daily inspection of shopping complexes, centres and consumer goods stores to ensure the safety of the products offered for sale.
Umm Salal Municipality has also announced its readiness and started its inspection campaigns on different food outlets to ensure they meet with health requirements, especially the work at abattoirs.
Inspection of Slaughterhouse for Eid.
Through planned drives, the Doha Municipality will verify the validity of special offers of some food items and their presentation and storage, in addition to the inspection of shops selling meat, fish and poultry in the complexes and consumer goods retailers.
The plan includes the monitoring of the food units in the markets and the municipal areas, as well as the inspections by the general control department. Inspectors will capture street and roaming butchers in coordination with the Criminal Investigation Department at the Ministry of Interior.
In the camel and cow abattoirs, the work of the unit will be from 5 am to 3 pm on all days of the week, except Friday, when it will work from 5 am to 11 am and from 1 pm to 6 pm. The work at automated abattoir will be from 5 am to 6 pm on all days except Friday. Friday it will be from 5 am to 10 pm.
The municipalities have advised people to get their animals slaughtered only at abattoirs and not at home to ensure the safety of meat as abattoirs have veterinary doctors to check the health of animals.
In order to avoid waiting at abattoirs, some people prefer slaughtering their sheep at homes ignoring the safety of meat, but it is not healthy compared to the situation at abattoirs which meet health requirements.
Regarding the public parks, they will be open to visitors around the clock during the Eid holidays. The Food Monitoring Unit at Industrial Area will inspect the establishments, companies and food stores that manufacture foodstuffs in the industrial Area.
About complaints during the Eid Al Adha holidays period, the Municipality said the complaints will be received by the concerned staff on daily basis during two periods, from 8 am to 5 pm and from 5 pm to 2 am. Also, the Cleanness Section At Services Affairs Department will provide many water tankers to remove wastewater.
