Lusail City on course to become most advanced

Sheikh Hamad and al-Buenain after inking the pact.

Lusail City is on its course to become one of the most technologically advanced and connected cities in the world, thanks to an agreement between Vodafone Qatar and Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company.
The extensive agreement reinforces Vodafone Qatar’s commitment to significantly grow its fixed line network across Qatar and will see the business build a world-class telecommunications infrastructure in the truly visionary single development that is Lusail City. The pact was signed by Sheikh Hamad Abdulla Jassim al-Thani, Vodafone Qatar’s CEO, and Nabeel al-Buenain, his counterpart at Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company.

Vodafone Qatar will be the first telecom operator to provide indoor mobile coverage for the more than 10 buildings (including infrastructure and commercial buildings) owned and managed by Qatari Diar, in addition to superior outdoor mobile coverage throughout Lusail City. Moreover, Vodafone Qatar will build an extensive, high-speed fibre technology network capable of handling speeds of up to 1Gbps across an area that spans 38sqkm.
This network will enable the provision of ‘triple play’ services that combine voice, high speed Internet and multimedia over IP, and which provides access to high-definition TV, premium content, video on demand and home entertainment to thousands of the city’s residents. The city’s businesses will also have access to a wide range of enterprise services including smart solutions and new applications such as smart security, asset tracking and smart metering.

These technologies of the future will help the businesses operating in Lusail to optimise, automate and innovate. Lusail City includes four exclusive islands and 19 multipurpose residential, mixed use, entertainment and commercial districts. The Vodafone Qatar built telecommunications infrastructure that will benefit an estimated 450,000 people – the eventual population of Lusail.

“Our 5G network coupled with our gigabit connectivity will open up a huge range of possibilities for the city’s residents, employees, businesses, visitors and developers. We will be combining broadband Internet access, television and telephone with wireless services and offering smart services and new applications that will ensure Lusail is one of the most advanced cities in the world,” Sheikh Hamad said.
Al-Buenain said Lusail Smart City sets new standards for community facilities and services, promising an excellent quality of life, convenience, security as well as maximum efficiency and sustainability.
