DOHA: The Ministry of Municipality and Environment has opened five major beaches and Corniche after renovation which are now equipped with new facilities including pergolas (shades), cafeterias, toilets and green areas among many others to serve the visitors.
The announcement comes a few days ahead of Eid Al-Fitr vacation when families and individuals head to beaches for spending quality time.
The renovated picnic places are Corniche of Al Wakra City, Al Shamal Corniche, Corniche of Al Khor City, Semaisima Beach and Doha Corniche, Ministry of Municipality and Environment tweeted yesterday.
Corniche of Al Wakra City was developed in a stretch of 2.4 kilometre (km). The facility has a total of 120 pergolas, 60 toilets across the beach and a big parking lot with the capacity of 600 vehicles.
Corniche of Al Wakra City also has three cafeterias, 25,000 square metre (sqm) green area and 98 lampposts equipped with solar system. After renovation, Al Shamal Corniche now has 2,570 meters long walkway, parking lot with the capacity of 120 vehicles, play area stretching over an area of 2,000 sqm.
There are two separate buildings which have a total of 16 toilets. Al Shamal Corniche also has 26 pergolas, 83 lampposts, 450 palm and other types of trees and benches on which a total of 55 people can take rest at a time.
Corniche of Al Khor City is developed as a picnic spot for families. Play area has been renovated completely. The facility has 46 pergolas, a number of benches that can accommodate 256 people at a time. Many restrooms were rebuilt and additional toilets were constructed to accommodate growing number of visitors. Trees and greeneries are spread over an area of 6,000 sqm in the corniche. A total of 45 new parking lots are added to Corniche of Al Khor City enabling it to accommodate 116 vehicles.
Green areas were increased at Semaisima Beach which has a park in an area of 4,000 sqm with flower plants, Sidr trees and different varieties of palm trees. New Semaisima Beach has thee play areas for children and enough pergolas and toilets for visitors.
Doha Corniche is developed in a stretch of 6km. Toilets and parking lots were renovated in a big way to accommodate growing number of visitors. A total of 24 toilets are rebuilt. Exercise equipment are placed at ten places so the visitors can do exercises.
