Ashghal completes Doha Corniche Development project

Doha: The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) yesterday announced the completion of the Doha Corniche Development project implemented along with a distance of 9km from Dafna area to Ras Abu Abboud Bridge.

The opening was held in the presence of CMC members Jassem Abdulla Al Maliki and Shaikha Al Jufairi, Eng. Abdulla Ibrahim Al Sada, Director of Technical Affairs Department in Doha Municipality, along with a number of Ashghal staff and project engineers.

Ashghal started implementing this project in October 2017, within an integrated plan to develop Corniche areas in Doha, Al Khor, Shamal City and Al Wakra Beach, as part of Corporate Social Responsibility.

The Doha Corniche Development project included extended expansion and maintenance including flooring, parking lots and toilets. All pedestrian walkways between the parking lots and the main walkway of Doha Corniche are also renovated using new interlock with a variety of designs, shapes, and colours.

This is in addition to replacing the floor of the public yard in the Corniche with new interlocks having seven squares of different sizes. The project also included renovation of all parking slots in Doha Corniche by replacing old interlock with a more solid asphalt layer enabling ease of maintenance in the future.

Eng. Abdulla Ibrahim Al Sada, Director of Technical Affairs at Doha Municipality, praised Ashghal’s efforts to implement the development and maintenance of Doha Corniche. Jassim Abdulla Al Malki, CMC Member of Constituency One, said that Ashghal had opened Corniches at Al Wakra, Shamal, Al Khor and Doha as a gift to the people and the country.

Shaikha Al Jufairi, CMC Member of Constituency Eight said, “what distinguishes this Corniche is that it will serve all visitors to Doha City, especially after the completion of this development project.”

Eng. Noora Al Mansouri of the Building Design Department at Ashghal said that the design for this development project was selected and approved from multiple designs presented by a team of new engineers, and Doha Corniche renovation project was completed within a period of 7 months.

Al Mansouri added also that the concrete parts of the seawater were repaired and 24 public toilets were completely refurbished in Doha Corniche, along with installation of 10 facilities within a span from Sheraton Park to Al-Shuyoukh Port opposite Souq Waqif, and these facilities are connected with surface water network and electricity in cooperation with other service providers. The 2006 Asian games oryx mascot will also be renovated.
