The Under Secretary-General for Cyber Security Q-CERT at the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC), Khalid al Hashimi stated that the State of Qatar is always on alert to the cyber security threats.
While addressing the opening session of the five-day ‘Regional Cyber Drill’ (ALERT) in Doha, Hashimi explained that Qatar’s Cyber Security Division consisting of Q-CERT and Critical Information Infrastructure Protection (CIIP) sections monitors threats constantly, as reported by Qatar Tribune.
He added that the country is cooperating with Oman, Egypt and Tunisia to ensure a safer cyber world.
Hashimi noted that cyber security is major area of concern for both governments and individuals as these threats are not limited to national boundaries.
It may be mentioned here that the conference was organised by Arab Regional Cyber Security Center in collaboration with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) with a delegation of 165 from Arab region.
Badar al Salehi, the head of ITU-ARCC, explained that cyber attacks, which have increased steadily in recent times, reveals the importance of such conferences.
Similarly, the regional director of ITU, Arab Region, Ebrahim al Haddad felt that the number of people dealing with computers was estimated at 12 trillion across the world in 2015.
