DOHA: Hundreds of cars queued yesterday at a number of Fahes centres for annual technical inspection to avoid paying the increase in inspection fee imposed by Woqod, which will come into effect from today.

Technical inspection fee for a private passenger car at the Fahes centre will be doubled from QR75 to QR150 from today (July 1).

The fee for motorcycle inspection will be QR100, which was earlier QR50. Many motorists considered the increase surprising and did not find time to get the inspection done, which resulted in the rush at Fahes centres yesterday.

“We were daily inspecting around 600 vehicles and today expecting the number to be doubled as only in the first few hours of the morning hundreds of vehicles have already lined up in the queue for check up,” said a supervisor at Fahes centre in Al Wakra.

To a question regarding centre’s capacity to inspect such a big number of vehicles, he replied that the centre had a capacity to inspect 1,000 vehicles daily, but the problem was that people come only by the last minute and we have to close it by 4.30pm.

“I don’t expect to extend working hours for technical inspection because the centre’s team has to shift to another area,” he replied to another question whether there was any possibility to extend working hours to entertain all motorists.
