‘No fixed date yet on president of Philippines visit to Kuwait’

The date of President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte’s visit to Kuwait has yet to be specified. In a report published on www.ptvnews. ph recently, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque was quoted as saying about Duterte’s visit to Kuwait, “No fixed date yet. He has been repeating that he will go but it has not been included in his schedule.”

When Duterte delivered a speech during the oath-taking of newly-elected barangay officials in Laguna, Philippines on Thursday, Duterte once again unveiled his plan to visit Kuwait in order to personally express gratitude to the Kuwaiti government for agreeing to protect the overseas Filipino workers, particularly the household workers. “We have already settled our differences and well, of course, I’d like to thank the State of Kuwait,” Duterte said. “All the things that I demanded were given to us. One day off. They can cook their own food. There will be no confiscation of passports and no physical abuse, and they can practice their own religion. About seven of them were granted. That’s why I’m going to Kuwait,” he added.

Duterte disclosed he will take commercial flights to cut down travel expenses. “Don’t worry, I will just take a commercial flight to say ‘thank you’ and then I’ll take the next available flight back home just to show our gratitude,” he said. It can be recalled that the Philippines and Kuwait signed last May an agreement on the protection of Filipinos working in the Gulf country. — www.ptvnews.ph
