Qatar takes part in Nato Defence Ministers’ meeting on Afghan mission

Brussels:  Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs, H E Dr Khalid bin Mohammed Al Attiyah, took part in the meeting of Defence Ministers of countries contributing troops to Nato’s Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan, which was held in the headquarter of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (Nato) in Brussels yesterday.

The meeting addressed the extension of the financial commitments required to fund the Afghan security forces until 2024, how to fill the gap in the numbers of troops required to participate in the Resolute Support mission and reviewing the political and security situation in Afghanistan, as well as formulating common vision between the conflicting parties.

Dr Al Attiyah delivered a speech during the meeting in which he pointed out that the State of Qatar is still providing the ground for dialogue between the conflicting parties to reach a reconciliation that supports Afghanistan in its stability.

He added that the State of Qatar would have been able to provide more that what it actually did, unless for the illegal siege imposed on it.

The meeting was attended by HE Qatar’s Ambassador to Belgium and Representative to EU and Nato, Abdulrahman bin Mohammed Al Khulaifi; HE Qatar Defence Attache in Belgium and a number of Qatar Armed forces senior officers.
