MEC tightens up food security procedures, carries out surprise inspection campaign in Old Airport area

A surprise inspection was carried out by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) on a number of shops in a commercial complex located in the Old Airport area.

During the campaign, as many as 5 violations charges were issued that ranged commercial license expiry, failure to meet the general and special requirements of shops, and failure to display commercial license visible inside the shop, as reported by The Peninsula.

In this regard, the Ministry issued a statement wherein it said that the inspection campaigns included 72 shops to check shops and restaurants’ compliance with the laws and regulations governing the conduct of commercial activities.

As a matter of fact, the Ministry has intensified its inspection campaigns with the holy month of Ramadan just around the corner.

The Ministry wants to regulate markets and commercial activities in the country and to monitor compliance with the laws and regulations governing the practice of commercial activities.

Further, the Ministry has also urged all merchants and shopkeepers to abide by the laws and regulations of the commercial activities, calling citizens to report any or violations related to registration and commercial licenses.
