Careem introduces new, lower prices for customers in Qatar

Careem, the region’s leading ride hailing app and only tech unicorn for the Middle East today announced the introduction of lower pricing for their customers in Doha and Al Wakrah. The move is in line with Careem’s ambition to have positive socio-economic impact through the creation of new job opportunities and by increasing mobility options for people to get around their cities. Careem started business in 2012 and has fast grown to have operations in 14 countries within the wider Middle East with more than 20 million customers and 800,000 Captains (Careem calls their drivers ‘Captains as a mark of respect) on the platform.

Pricing will become up to 20% cheaper than before with rides starting at as little as QR 10. Taking a typical short trip with GO, our value focused car type, from Sheraton Hotel to Souq Waqif the fare will fall from QR 17 to QR 13. Similarly a short trip with the GO+, our comfort focused car type will fall from QR 24 to QR 19. Savings on longer trips are even more attractive. Taking the example of a ride with GO from The Pearl to The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) the fare will fall from QR 32 to QR 26. The same journey with the GO+ car type will fall from QR 40 to QR 32.

Commenting on the new pricing model, Khaled Nuseibeh, General Manager of Careem in the GCC, said: “as a mission driven company, we aim to improve the lives of people in every city we operate in. By making our service more affordable we will be able to open up our platform to a wider customer base and provide more business for our hard working captains. This is an exciting time for Careem in Qatar, with our extensive use of tailored tech for the region including smart dispatching and advanced fleet management services, we plan to become an integral part of the lives of everyday people and a brand that they can trust and rely on.”
