MEC announces initiative for sheep meat prices

DOHA: The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) announced yesterday its initiative to support the prices of sheep meat for citizens during the holy month of Ramadan, which will start from May 13 until the end of the holy month.

This comes as part of a number of initiatives launched by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce for the holy month of Ramadan under the slogan, as part of its commitment to ensuring the availability of sheep meat for citizens during the holy month at reasonable prices, along with price controls and balance between supply and demand in the markets.

The Ministry of Economy and Commerce explained that it was agreed with Widam Food Company (Widam) to sell the sheep at subsidised and reduced prices to the citizens (two sheep head for each citizen, provided the original card is presented), in Widam’s quarries in Doha, North, Khor.

The Syrian sheep weighing 40 kg or more at QR950 while the Iranian sheep weighing 35 kg or more at QR650 and the local sheep 30 kg or higher at QR1050.

There will be an additional cost of QR16 for slaughter, shredding and packaging and QR34 for porter, through separate coupons
