The e-link which is almost ready will enable completion of all procedures related to renewal of vehicle permits online, once the technical inspection is successfully completed.

“Currently we are coordinating with the Qatar Central Bank as it governs insurance companies and we hope to complete the process this year,” Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Radi Al Hajri, Director of Media and Awareness, at the Traffic Department told The Peninsula.

“Once the e-link is fully implemented, vehicle owners need only to complete the technical inspection. All other procedures for renewal of the road permit can be completed online. They are not required to visit the Traffic Department and the insurance companies,” he added.

Ready for e-link implementation 

Currently all these services are being provided under one umbrella at the premises of the technical inspection centers (Fahes) operated by Woqod. Al Hajri said that the department was ready for implementation of the e-link but some technical aspects and matters related to insurance companies were pending.

The proposed e-link will also enable completion of accident related formalities faster. Motorists will no more be required to visit the services centers of the Ministry of Interior and the offices of the insurance companies to obtain the documents required for insurance claim and repair of cars.

The accident reports can also be printed from MOI website or Metrash2 mobile app without approaching the traffic investigation sections.

Earlier, motorists involved in accidents had to wait until the patrol police would reach the site or move the vehicle to the traffic investigation sections to register the incident and issue a report to proceed to the insurance companies.
