Security agencies rescue Asian worker from suicide

Doha: An Asian expatriate worker was saved from suicide by security agencies. What made his attempt the suicide was not known.

The worker had started climbing an electric column to reach the high voltage power line to commit suicide, when officials reached the scene.

This was disclosed by the Ministry of Interior on their social media platform.

The security agencies, made up of police, civil defense and Lekhwiya, was dispatched to the scene after National Command Centre received a call about an Asian expatriate trying to commit suicide.

On reaching the scene the officials tried to calm the worker and at the same time the power supply to the line was disconnected.

The security personnel then engaged in a dialogue with him persuading him to abandon his attempt and this lasted for a long time.

They reached out to his wife in his home country over the phone and he spoke to her via loudspeaker.

Finally, the civil defense men could reach him using a crane and brought him down from the electric column.

The authorities started investigation into the circumstances leading into the incident.
