Qatar tops MENA in Global Peace Index 2020; ranks 27th globally

Doha: Qatar ranked first in Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and 27th globally in the Global Peace Index for the year 2020.

Issued by the Institute of Economics and Peace in Australia, the state was ranked 31 in the year 2019 GPI ranking. The 2020 report covered 163 countries globally and in MENA Kuwait comes second (39 globally) followed by UAE (41) and Oman in fourth position (68).

Qatar is also listed among the top 15 in food security, ranking 13, with 81.2 points. Qatar is first in the Arab world and 16 globally for Society Safety and Security domain.

The main themes where Qatar has achieved high evaluation rates are low rate of homicides and violence, the extent of crime in society and stability of political situations and a society free from terrorism and its effects and lack of threats or conflicts.
