Eng Mohamed Al Bader, Executive Director of Information Technology Department at Al Meera Company, said consumers are advised to buy only according to their need as all food items and other products are available in enough quantity at all Al Meera branches and the prices remain stable.

“We are working to further enhance food security in the face of emergencies, so all branches have full stock of food items,” he said.

Al Bader stressed that there is no reason for fear, because all items are available in sufficient quantity to cover the needs of everyone. “Some buyers’ rush to stores to buy items in large quantity to store at home, which is totally unjustified.”

Speaking to a local channel, he pointed out that “all items, whether it is red meat, fish, and other food items, are available.

“Our social responsibility today is to unite our efforts to fight coronavirus (COVID-19), not to spread fear among residents,” he said.

Recently, Sheikh Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani, had said that the Ministry maintains a strategic reserve of food items that are sufficient to meet the needs of residents for longer periods.

He had also said that the food items are present at retail outlets in abundance and there is no shortage. The supply of food items is regular and there is a strong follow-up by the Ministry of this process on a daily basis.

Within the framework of preventive measures taken by the government to limit the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), Al Meera has taken many preventive measures in this regard.

“Since the first day after the outbreak of the virus, we started daily sterilisation of trolleys at all branches of Al Meera. We also check the temperature of sales staff daily before they start working.

The sales staff also wear gloves, masks, and others as precaution.

Also several ministries and entities have announced many measures, which include closure of children’s play area in the parks, postponing the training sessions and workshops, carrying out cleaning and sterilisation campaigns in many markets.

All entities are urged to contribute to the State’s efforts to limit the spread of the virus, including public and private sector institutions,  and also urged to be socially responsible in such circumstances.
