Doha: In an interview Hassan Al Thawadi, Secretary General for the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, said that official announcement of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 schedule is a major milestone to the road to 2022. The interview was also telecast on  beIN SPORTS.

“It is extremely important because before the Supreme Committee used to talk about future developments and infrastructure. Now, with almost everything in place it is great to announce the official schedule for the 2022 FIFA World Cup,” he said.

On being asked what makes the 2022 FIFA World Cup special, Al Thawadi replied:

First, fans can watch more than one match in a day. It is special because stadiums are so close to each other. That is a great opportunity for fans to watch 2 games in a day – something that was not possible in other tournaments. The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 will host 4 games a day in the group stages.

Second, fans do not need to travel to follow their team. As soon as they reach Qa-tar, they can stay in one hotel and all they have to think about is the football matches.

Third, this is the first FIFA World Cup to be hosted by a Middle Eastern Arab country. It is an opportunity to bring cultures together and for people from differ-ent backgrounds and nationalities to come together.

Four, the World Cup will accessible to all fans and will be a more affordable tournament.

It is also very special for all of us to celebrate overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic as one. It will be great for all of us to celebrate this for the first time in Qatar in 2022.
