Doha: Major General Mohammed Saad Al Kharji, Director-General of the General Directorate of Traffic, has said that parents have a great responsibility and an important role in monitoring the behaviour of their sons to address the issue of committing traffic violations especially in the Sealine area.

“All parents should check the Ministry of Interior ‘s website weekly or monthly to make sure of the traffic violations committed by their sons and guide them on its basis,” he said.

Al Kharji also said that the Ministry of Interior provides all necessary online services to parents and that they should sit with their sons in case their speed violations get up to a fine of QR1,000 that means that the speed was up to 170km/h or more otherwise the speeding fine would have been around QR500.

He stressed, during a talk with media persons at a recently held seminar, that the traffic accidents in the Sealine area have decreased and could be confirmed through all statistics, including Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC). “But we hope that the accidents will be zero; no one wants to lose his son.”

Al Kharji said that despite the decline in traffic accidents, injuries and deaths at camping sites, the department continued its awareness drives related to the importance of adhering to traffic rules. Al Kharji announced that from the beginning of November 2019 all security patrols had intensified their presence in the Sealine area, also traffic awareness programs increased as the winter camping period considered a challenge regarding the number of traffic accidents.

The General Directorate of Traffic launched this year an awareness campaign under the slogan “Camping Without Accidents” to achieve a number of objectives. To enhance traffic safety at roads, the General Directorate of Traffic will install a number of radars at pedestrian crossing points in the streets to monitor the vehicles that violate the right of pedestrians at safe crossings.
