Strong wind likely tomorrow; QMD offers tips to avoid sunstroke

Doha: Qatar Meteorology Department (QMD) reported that there will be scattered clouds and slight dust at places, at times, from today until tomorrow at 6am. QMD also warned against strong wind in some areas tonight.

Strong wind is expected inshore at some places during daytime. Strong wind with high sea is also expected offshore.

The wind is expected to blow northwesterly to northerly at 12 KT to 22KT gusting at 28KT in some places during daytime.

Sea heights tomorrow will vary from 2ft to 4ft up to 5ft at times inshore and 3ft to 7ft offshore and will rise to 9ft at some places.

Due to the noticeable rise in temperature during this period, QMD also warned citizens and residents against sunstroke. Sunstroke happens when the body becomes unable to cool itself through sweating. Chances of sunstroke increases when humidity rises in hot weather conditions.

Some symptoms of sunstroke include:

– Sudden rise in body temperature

– Tiredness, weakness, and dizziness

– Heavy sweating

– Difficulty in breathing

– Losing consciousness

When symptoms occur, QMD recommends the following actions:

– Take the person to a cool place or to the shade

– Remove unnecessary clothes

– Spray cold water on the body

– Try to give him or her water or juices.

– Ask for medical assistance immediately

QMD also listed some tips to avoid sunstroke:

– Avoid direct sunlight

– Drink plenty of fluids

– Wear light coloured clothing to reflect sunlight
