Most part of the country, including Doha, received thundery rain with different intensity and hailstorm at places. According to Qatar Meteorology Department (QMD), some parts of the country will witness rain today also, which may turn into thunderstorms.

Mohamad Al Shamari from QMD said in a video message posted on social media site of the Department that thundery rain which began yesterday will continue today. He said that rain today will be lighter compared to yesterday.

“Doha and most of eastern, central and southern areas of the country are witnessing thunderstorms of varied intensity accompanied with strong dust-raising wind with visibility dropping below 1km in some areas. Please take extra care and follow safety tips,” QMD tweeted yesterday.

Thunderstorms were detected close to Doha and some central/southern areas. Thunderstorms were also witnessed in Al Khor, Simaysma and parts of the southeast coast of the country with strong winds exceeding 30 knots, causing dust and low visibility sometimes less than 2km.

Ministry of Municipality and Environment, represented by the Joint Rainfall Emergency Committee, has announced its readiness to remove the water-logging from roads and inside residential areas.

Residents can reach the Committee through contact number of control rooms set up at the municipalities across the country. The Ministry shared the emergency contact number on its social networking sites.

The 17-member Joint Rainfall Emergency Committee focuses on the development of an integrated plan for the rainy season, dealing with any water-logging with effective cooperation by the Authorities Concerned.

The work plan defined the tasks that each member of the committee will carry out accurately. The Committee has set priorities for dealing with communications so that the areas with large water-logging will be responded quickly, at roads and tunnels in order to maintain traffic flow, then hospitals emergency centres, schools and neighbourhoods.
