Doha, Qatar: With just two weeks until the Olympic Games commence in Paris, the Qatari security forces arrived today, July 12, in the French capital to assist in securing the Paris 2024 Olympics (July 26-August 11) and Paralympic Games (August 28-September 8).

The Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the French Republic, HE Sheikh Ali bin Jassim Al Thani, and Brigadier General Nawaf Majid Al Ali, Commander of the Qatari Security Forces for the Paris 2024 Olympics, were at the forefront of welcoming the force at the airport. They were joined by senior French security officials, including Major General Emmanuel Melkernia, Assistant Director General of the Directorate of International Security Cooperation at the French Ministry of the Interior; Major General Jean-Valery Letterman, Head of the Directorate of Public Relations and Liaison at the French National Gendarmerie; Lieutenant Colonel François Bremand, 2024 Olympic Games Operations Officer at the French National Gendarmerie; and Major Abdul Rahman Al Tamimi, Security Attaché for Internal Security Force Affairs at the Qatari Embassy in France.

Brigadier General Nawaf Majid Al Ali emphasized that the participation of the Qatari forces underscores the robust relationship between Qatar and France, particularly in security matters. He highlighted the statement by His Excellency Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), that the tasks of this force extend their mission of maintaining security in Qatar, and they will execute their duties with utmost efficiency and professionalism. He also noted that Qatar’s security expertise has become a valuable resource for major international events.

This participation reflects the strength of the strategic partnership between Qatar and France, especially in the security sector, and comes under an administrative agreement on security cooperation signed between the two countries last February.
