Qatar to witness lunar and solar eclipse this month

QNA

Qatar Centre for Space Sciences and Astronomy has announced that the sky of Qatar will witness two astronomical phenomena, the solar eclipse and lunar eclipse, this month.

In a statement, President of Qatar Centre for Space Sciences and Astronomy Sheikh Salman bin Jabor Al Thani said the first phenomenon will be a semi-shadow eclipse of the moon, which will fall on Friday, June 5, as the moon begins entering the ends of the earth’s shadow in the sky at 8:45pm and reaches its peak at 10.24pm with the shadow of the moon diminishes significantly and ends at 12:04 after midnight.

The eclipse phenomenon will be followed by a partial eclipse of the sun on Sunday, June 21.

This will involve the moon blocking nearly 70 percent of the sun’s disk, making it one of the observed phenomena everywhere in the State of Qatar, indicating that the eclipse will start at 7.12am. It will reach its peak at 8.30am and end at 10.02am.

He stressed that these two astronomical phenomena are natural phenomena from which there is no harm to the globe. He called for not paying attention to those who promote disasters and epidemics rumours.
