Doha: The Government Communications Office has underlined that the State of Qatar had worked for several years with international organizations to ensure the welfare and safety of all workers.

H E Sheikh Jassim bin Mansour Al Thani, Assistant Director of Government  Communications Office for Planning, said in a statement in response to the article published by Human Rights Watch that what is circulating is incorrect and misleading.

He added that the State of Qatar had become a pioneer in the field of workers’ welfare and safety in the region, thanks to the country’s continued cooperation with international organisations and other partners, where there are regular inspection visits to workplaces to ensure that the decision on working hours is implemented during the summer, which resulted in the closure of more than 300 work sites by order of inspectors during the summer of 2019.

Sheikh Jassim bin Mansour Al Thani explained that the State of Qatar is fully aware of the dangers of heat stress during the summer season, noting that as part of the State’s commitment to ensuring the welfare of workers, guidance for employers has been prepared and published in partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO) , as a measure to assess risks and mitigate the risk of heat stress.

A comprehensive study on the impact of heat stress was prepared in collaboration with the ILO and the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC). The results of this study will be used in all health and safety issues, he said.
