Qatar is a very small, just over 15000 square kilometres in area, however, it is rich beyond measure. Qatar is a peninsular country bordering the Persian Gulf and Saudi Arabia with a long coastline along the Persian Gulf. An overwhelming majority of the people in Qatar are foreigners, making only 20 percent of the population Qatari. The country is presently governed by the Emir HH Sheikh Tamim Al Thani, the fourth son of the Father-Emir HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa.

Qatar maybe small in size but the country represents a unique fusion of beautiful traditions and cultures from around the world. There are many beautiful spots in Qatar that photographers and visitors equally adore. Today we bring you a list of breath-taking and picturesque places of Qatar, here it is:

1 Doha Fort:

This erstwhile military structure catches the eye of the people who have a tendency to notice the artistic ingenuity. The fort now serves as a museum and is home to some the most intricate oil paintings, old photographs and wooden ornaments. All of these items are in immaculate shape and have been well managed over the years to minimise the onslaught of time on these invaluable artefacts. There are many interesting details one can discover at the Fort. The grand and imposing exterior of the Fort is its most striking element. This Fort represents a perfect contrast to the shiny skyscrapers of the new Doha city, making it one of the most picturesque places of Qatar.

2 Museum of Islamic Art:

This is undoubtedly the largest museum of the country. The Museum of Islamic Art in Doha was thrown open to public in the December 2008. Qatari authorities goaded the famous architect I.M.Pei out of retirement to design this museum. The Museum is located on the south side of Doha’s Corniche on a man-made island, which is sixty meters from the shore. A C-shaped peninsula provides protection from the Arabian Gulf on the north and from unsightly industrial buildings on the east. The Museum is a house to invaluable collections of Islamic artefacts from around the world. Visitors can admire collections of ceramics, jewellery, glass, items made of ivory and much more. The desert sun plays a fundamental role, transforming the architecture into a play of light and shadows, I M Pei has himself said about the building.
