Ministry of Education allocates land for three private schools

Doha: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education has allocated three government-owned land plots for the construction and operation of private schools, in implementation of the wise directives of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
The allocation of the land comes in line with the efforts of Ministry of Education and Higher Education to provide diverse, innovative and high-quality educational opportunities for students and their parents by enhancing the role of the private sector in the educational process with a view to achieve the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030, especially the human development pillar.
Three private schools to be constructed by the private sector were awarded the land plots. The first is Cardiff School, an Indian curriculum-based school, and will be located in the Al Khor area. It will offer schooling for boys and girls in all levels. The school is expected to provide 1,134 seats.
The second school will be built by the developer Millennium Holding Company in Umm Al Qarn and will teach the American curriculum for boys and girls of all stages. The school is expected to provide 1,185 seats.
The third one, by the developer Hassanesco, will be based in Al Khor area and follows the American curriculum, for boys and girls of all stages, and is expected to host 1,053 seats. The private sector will be invited for submitting tenders for two more land plots to build two national curriculum-based schools.
The three schools will provide over 3,200 seats to meet the increasing needs on education in the light of the population growth in the State of Qatar.
In a press statement, Khalid Mohammad Al Hajri, the Director of General Services Department at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and member of the technical group of the Ministerial Group for the Encouragement and Participation of the Private Sector in the Economic Development Projects of Qatar, said that the private schools to be established on these lands lots cover all stages from Kindergartens to Grade 12 and offer diverse opportunities for students and their parents as they follow a variety of educational curricula including the national, American and Indian curricula.
He added that the land lots are located in different areas of the country to take into consideration the population density and to achieve balance in the distribution of state projects, stressing that the private sector is a key partner in the educational process.
It should be noted that the initiative of awarding land lots to the private sector and the initiative of vacant public schools were highly sought after by investors wishing to invest in the private education sector.
The number of lands allocated to the private sector in the first phase amounts to six with a capacity over 7.000 seats.
