Doha: A prominent Indian school sent a text message to parents saying 2019-20 will be their last academic year. They urged parents to look for places in other schools in Qatar from academic year 2020-21.

Doha Modern Indian School (DMIS) said in a text message to parents that they will update them in case of any developments otherwise.

Full text of the message as received by parents:

“Dear Parent, We are constrained to inform you that due to unavoidable reasons, the last academic year of the School will be 2019-20 and hence you are requested to ensure places for your kids in other schools in Qatar for the academic year 2020-21. However we shall update you on this matter in the coming days in case of any development otherwise. We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience caused to you and this message is sent to you as an advance intimation. DMIS”

This created a lot of panic among the parents as admission to Indian school has been difficult last few years. Opening of couple of new schools recently has provided some relief in the current academic year.

Shifting children who are studying in higher classes especially in ninth and eleventh grade is difficult as most schools don’t offer admission to tenth and 12th grades.

Many parents contacted by The Peninsula voiced concerns regarding the sudden decision and were worried about securing an admission for their children. According to community sources there are nearly 2,000 students studying in the school.

Run by The Taleb Group, the school offers Indian curriculum CBSE for KG1 to 12th grade.

Two parents told The Peninsula that a school source cited financial reasons when they contacted him.

We are not able confirm the same with the school authorities.

Many parents expressed hope that whatever issue is behind the decision will be resolved soon or someone else will takeover the same.

A senior official from the management refused to comment and directed us to school authorities and till the time of filing this report we have not received any comment from the school. We will update the report with their comment as and when we receive them. Indian Embassy sources said they are aware of the issue and looking into details.
