Free medical camp for Asian workers on Friday

Organisers announcing details about the camp
More than 2,500 Asian labourers will attend the 17th Asian Medical Camp at Al Thumama Health Centre on Friday from 7am to 3pm, it was announced on Tuesday.

The camp is jointly organised by the Centre for Indian Community (CIC) and Indian Doctors’ Club (IDC) under the patronage of the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), Primary Health care Corporation (PHCC) and Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC).

Organisers on Tuesday said all arrangements are in place for the successful organising of the mega camp.

“Labourers from India, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will be offered free medical check-up, counselling, medicines. Follow-up treatment facilities will be arranged and patients will be referred to the hospitals if needed,” said Dr Samia al-Abdulla, chief operating officer, PHCC.

“The camp will be attended by more than 200 doctors along with paramedical staff from MoPH, HMC, PHCC and various government and private hospitals. Volunteers along with students from various institutions will ensure proper conducting and better service for the attendees,” said Abdul Latheef KC, president, CIC.

The medical team will work in four shifts.

Doctors will diagnose various ailments including lifestyle diseases. Lab tests for blood pressure and random sugar will be available on the spot for all visitors.

IDC vice president Dr Biju Gafoor said the camp is also aimed at making the beneficiaries aware of the facilities, being provided by the government in the health sector. “The weaker section often fails to make use of the existing facilities. The camp will function as a link between the public facilities and the labour community with low income,” Gafoor explained.

Organisers have approached the beneficiaries and cards have been issued. MM Abdul Jaleel, camp convenor, said that registration will be open for all those who want to attend the camp and free transportation will be provided. Health talks and interactive sessions are also a part of the camp.

Indian ambassador P Kumaran will inaugurate the camp. Representatives from various departments and organisations will attend the opening ceremony. Dr Hanadi al-Hail, director, Al Thumama PHC was also present at the press conference.
