Doha, Qatar: The Doha-based humanitarian funds of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Kuwait Society for Relief (KSR) have signed a cooperation agreement to enhance their regional and global presence in humanitarian action.

This agreement aims to improve the capabilities of both organizations, increase opportunities to utilize available resources, collaborate on qualitative programs, projects, and events, and share expertise, information, and knowledge.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Humanitarian Funds of the OIC, HE Sheikh Dr. Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al-Thani, and Chairman of KSR, Dr. Ibrahim Al Saleh, co-signed the cooperation agreement in the presence of the leaders of both institutions.

HE Sheikh Dr. Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al-Thani stated that the humanitarian funds always strive to expand partnerships with regional, global, and UN organizations, including KSR, which encompasses numerous Kuwaiti societies. He highlighted that Kuwait continues to make significant contributions to global relief efforts.

His Excellency expressed his gratitude to the State of Qatar for hosting the humanitarian funds, which have played a significant and influential role in providing relief efforts worldwide. He noted their collaboration with international organizations and global humanitarian partnerships with various institutions.

For his part, Chairman of KSR, Dr. Ibrahim Al Saleh, stated that KSR and the humanitarian funds of the OIC share a mutual desire to enhance cooperation in humanitarian programs and relief projects. He emphasized the importance of sharing expertise, knowledge, and information between the two institutions in the areas of humanitarian action and emergency response.

KSR Treasurer Jamal Al Nouri affirmed that the cooperation areas will include implementing joint qualitative humanitarian initiatives and joining existing relief or humanitarian initiatives. These initiatives can be executed jointly or individually and can be fully or partially funded by one or both parties.

The agreement stipulates that each party will allocate QR 500,000, or its equivalent in Kuwaiti Dinars, to support rapid intervention in disasters, crises, and emergencies, Al Nouri highlighted. Another clause specifies cooperation in mobilizing the necessary financial resources to cover some joint activities, programs, and projects through mechanisms to be determined.

Executive Director of Humanitarian Funds of the OIC, Osman Abdulqader, stated that signing this agreement is part of the policy pursued by the humanitarian funds in collaborating with key institutions globally. He added that the agreement emphasizes the urgent need to elevate, direct, and advance humanitarian work, as both parties represent a qualitative addition in their field. The agreement aims to leverage their resources, personnel, and projects.

He pointed out that the key purpose of this agreement is to create an integrated model combining the efforts of both parties to maximize their potential through synergy and collaboration. This is crucial in light of the global challenges facing humanitarian action, necessitating unified efforts and the harnessing of available resources to overcome shared hurdles and share field expertise.
