The cabinet decided today to reduce the number of employees at the government institutions to 20 percent of the total employees to complete the necessary work and for the functioning of public facilities.

The rest 80 percent employees will start to work remotely from their homes or upon request, as the case may be, from Sunday, March 22, 2020 for a period of two weeks.

The decision exempted military, security and health sectors, underlining the importance of observing that the State projects are not affected and taking necessary precautionary and preventive measures.

The decision was made during the regular meeting of the cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior H E Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani. The meeting held at its headquarters in the Amiri Diwan.

During this period, the situation will be evaluated to take further necessary decisions.

Ministers and the heads of government agencies shall take the necessary measures in this regard.

Cabinet also listened to the briefing made by His Excellency the Minister of Public Health about the latest developments and measures taken by all relevant agencies to prevent the spread of the Corona virus (Covid 19) to ensure the health and safety of citizens and residents in the country.

Qatar has taken many measures to arrest the spread of the virus in the past few days like closing retail shops in mall and commercial complexes.
